Monday again??

Well, I keep promising I'll blog more, and here it is another week since I did. Ah, well. Here's what I'm up to.

Warmer weather over the weekend led me to start planning my spring garden. I have seeds/ starts for these veggies:

Peas: Alaska & Sugar Snap
Beets: Detroit Dark Red
Broccoli: De Cicci
Cauliflower: Early Snowball
Radish: Champion
Spinach: Bloomsdale Long Standing
Carrots: Danvers #126
Lettuce: Black Seeded Simpson
Parris Island Cos
Mesclun Mix
Swiss Chart: Bright Lights
Potatoes: Red Pontiacs
Onions: Sweet Yellow & Shallots
Garlic
Flowers: purple coneflowers, black eyed susan, shasta daisies, marigolds
Herbs: garlic chives, italian parsley, basil, oregano
(I also want to get some more asparagus crowns to add to my asparagus patch)

I moved the rabbits to the back of my garden area, and shoveled all the poop into my beds to be worked in by Mr. I. I've decided to work with what I have for a garden this year, with plans to improve/ expand it later. I've been letting the chickens (big ones) out to free range the property, and spend WAY too much time watching them to see what they're up to. Henrietta (speckled sussex) thinks she's a dog, and follows me around. Lucille (Americauna) is back in general population in the little chicken pen, and doing well, she likes to come over to be petted. And Spike (#2 Barred Rock Rooster) is about to go into isolation so he can get his affairs in order. (OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!!)

It's beginning to feel like spring here. I'm feeling quiet & contemplative about things this month. I'm about to swear off people completely and become a total hermit up here. Animals are better company, and appreciate my attempts to be nice better. Ah, well, life goes on. The problem with most people is that they're all so HUMAN, know what I mean?

On that note, I'm reading a ton. Right now: The Friday Night Knitting Club & Un-Christian. The second is a GREAT book. One of those things I read and go "YES! Uh-HUH! Hey, it's not just me! Exactly!!" There's a reason church seems to not be working for so many people we know our age! It's not working. Good read for 20-30 somethings (defined as Mosaics and Busters in the book) who need to know other people struggle with the same issues and feelings about organized religion. Good for the older generations (boomers & elders) who wonder what "our" problem is, and why their congregations are aging with them. And really, a great read for anyone who calls themselves a Christian, as a real eye opener about how we treat, and are perceived by "outsiders." Read it.

My days are filled with homeschooling. Dishes. Laundry. Call me, and you'll find I don't talk about much else. It's where I'm at. I'm painting my bathroom. Pine needle green. I love it already, and I've just trimmed out around the fixtures. Time for the white on white to go away, and start to feel more like home. (and hide the dogg- butt dirt color better! >:)

I have a bunch of pics to post on my blog, but honestly just don't feel like dealing with it right now, so they'll be here eventually. Stay Tuned...

Today was a Monday. I hate Mondays almost as much as they hate me. My pizza crust exploded out of its container, and stuck to the inside of the fridge. I got it all over the handle trying to clean it up. I made (tried) waffles for breakfast only to learn WE were out of eggs half way through. ??!!??!?!?! Trying to scrounge some from the coop got me bitten for my efforts. (I have one hen who's a great layer, but mean as a SNAKE, I tell you!) My wood fire wouldn't go, the waterers were frozen, and the neighbor's dog peed on my bag of organic seed starting medium on the front porch. Ugh.

Little Bit is doing new stuff in math and cried over it. Curly Sue finished Charlotte's Web. The ending went about like I expected. Tears. AND C. Sue has an earache, runny nose, sore throat, low fever AGAIN. This poor kid can't BEAT the crud this year. Peanut is in the 7th Harry Potter and recounts each chapter for us. Twice. We're still not done with school for the day, but I dread hauling them back down there again, but I feel behind... (sigh...)

The highpoint in my day has definitely been a call from Anna. (thanks, Anna!!!!) who cheered me up, even if I couldn't find much to say, because I was trying to be positive. What would I do without the few good friends I have who are willing to put up with me being a crappy friend!! (-;

Anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a pity party, just being honest. My blog is definitely appropriately named today. Maybe next Monday I'll sleep in.
